The course seeks to provide an opportunity for students to experience application of a broad range of engineering & non-engineering skillsets in a teambased environment working towards sustainable outcomes to humanitarian development challenges. Student teams from OSU & Zamorano University will work collaboratively with nonprofit Heart to Honduras to develop & support community-driven projects.

Course Goals / Objectives:
Work with community partners to identify resources that can be leveraged to develop sustainable community-based solutions
Effectively work in a multi-university, multi-cultural team-based environment
Appropriately apply engineering tools and skillsets in the analysis and design of systems in conjunction with community partners in a dvelopment country setting
Work within an NGO-defined framework for participatory community development
Develop an awareness of existing user and community practice related to an expressed need
Be self-reflective in response to being exposed to global poverty and differences in values and cultural norms
Able to work with community to prioritize cost, time, and scope of project
Implement solutions that are conscious of the social context of problem-solving
Engage in casual conversation in Spanish
