Course Goals / Objectives:
Understand the commercial and DOE nuclear fuel cycles and the associated types and volumes of radioactive waste generated at each step of these cycles
Understand the classification of radioactive waste in the U.S. and internationally
Become aware of radioactive waste treatment technologies
Become aware of radioactive waste disposal technologies
Become aware of the processes associated with decommissioning and decontamination of nuclear facilities
Become aware of the regulations and risks associated with radioactive waste transportation
Understand the potential interface between the nuclear fuel cycle, radioactive waste management, and nuclear and radiological terrorism
Become aware of risk communication issues related to the nuclear fuel cycle and radioactive waste management
