Course Goals / Objectives:
? Identify classes of problems where dynamics effects must be considered in the analysis and design of structures
? Assess the fundamental free vibration properties of structures, and use these results to evaluate initial linear response of structures
? Understand the effect of nonlinearity in the response of structures under extreme excitation
? Implement dynamic solution strategies to civil engineering type structures
? Evaluate continuous system type structures for dynamic properties and response
? Understand the development and limitations of the building code with respect to dynamic effects in wind and earthquake type excitation
